Favourite Types of Paint

Hey; back at it again with Sharksarte.

Today we are gonna talk about my favourite types of paint. I don’t use a lot of paint. But, still they seem very nice and the texture is really smooth in the end product.

There are three types of paint I usually use and really like.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watercolor_painting

The paint I use most often is watercolour. I usually use this because it is the easiest to find in stores. I am not the kind of person to look around too much. I’m the kind of person to buy the brand that I am already used to. When you use watercolour, you need to be careful or not you could damage the paper itself; especially when the paper quality is not that great. I used to damage a lot of papers; back then when I still don’t really understand watercolour. I also used a lot of water -like tonnes of them- just for a little bit of paint; it led to the destruction of paper and my drawings/illustration.

Next is, gouache. I don’t really use it that much. Even now, I think I have run out of this type of paint; or maybe it’s somewhere in the house -I should probably search for it at least- but, I really like the texture as soon as it has dried out. It is really smooth and the colours look very vivid and soft at the same time. The paint itself is pretty easy to use; even though we need to mix it with some water, it is still pretty thick after. It has a mixture of the characteristics of acrylic and watercolour. The texture is thicker than watercolour, but it is not as thick as acrylic.

Another one is, Acrylic type of paint. It is the thickest out of the three; and it is also the most popular. It is best to us it on canvas. But, since I rarely use canvas, this became my least used type of paint. Although I rarely use it, I still really like it. It has been stuck with me since I was in elementary school. We used to have art classes and we often paint after being done with the picture, with acrylic paint on a canvas.

That was a really fun time. I remember that I used to stain my uniforms; thank goodness that acrylic paint wasn’t that hard to wash. Rather than oil paint where it’s really hard to wash. I still really enjoy acrylic painting until now. But it’s really rare to see me paint in a canvas; because i’m pretty used to painting on books or sheets of paper now.

Victorian Fashion Styles

As you can see, today we are going to discuss about the dresses and fashion style in the Victorian Era.

In the 1830s, Queen Victoria ruled the British Empire. The growth of the economy also includes the growth of technological advancement. By the 1850s, sewing machines were produced at a considerably huge amount and synthetic dye was on the rise. These two made big changes in fashion. Clothes could be made faster and at the same time cheaper. Printing were also advancing at the same time and that could also be a reason of people following trends; the advertisement of the fashion trends.

During this era, women were mostly expected to stay at home. It is very much reflected in the clothing style in the Victorian era. Like the tightly laced corsets, hair styled very nicely, large gowns, and their frilly ends. The neckline of these dresses are usually pretty low -showing their shoulders- and it made corsets lose their shoulder straps. But, these showing their neckline stuff were only restricted for the upper and middle class women. The working class women were not allowed to show too much skin. They used shawls to cover it instead.

Corsets were also widely used for women of all class; but, as time passed by, they were starting to be opposed because some believe it caused a lot of ‘diseases’. Like, scoliosis -curvature in the spine- birth defects, and deformities of the ribs.

The sleeves were also tightly fit -in the early Victorian era- and they eventually limited women’s movement. The development of the crinoline also helped with the making of other choices for sleeves such as the Engageantes kind of sleeves.

During this era, the silhouette of the dresses and gowns changed from time to time. From big full skirts to beehive shapes to just the back being full. The crinolines were invented to make women walk fully inside their skirt and it being pretty light. But, it started to disappear because it became dangerous for working class women.

During the 1840s, men wore tight-fitting, frock coats and a waistcoat or vest. The upper class men wore top hats and the middle class men wore bowler hats. In the 1850s, they start to wore shirts with turnover collars. They also continued to wear top and bowler hats.

Other hat shapes became more popular in the 1860s.

In the 1870s, three-piece suits became really popular along with patterned fabrics for shirts. Frock coats also became shorter. Tuxedos were worn for relaxed formal occasions and the norfolk jacket were also worn for outdoor purposes like hunting in the 1880s. The shoes had a narrower toe and also higher heels. The blazer was introduced in the 1890s. They were worn for sports, sailing, and other casual activities.

Men had fairly short hair at the time, but they were mostly accompanied with, moustaches and beards.

It was so much fun making this entry, since i really like the subject of today’s choice.

Thank you for reading! May you have a wonderful day.

The painting was painted by famous artist Vincent Van Gogh; in the year 1889. I admire how the sky looks like the waves of the ocean.

A painting of a scene at night with 10 swirly stars, Venus, and a bright yellow crescent Moon. In the background there are hills, in the middle ground there is a moonlit town with a church that has an elongated steeple, and in the foreground there is the dark green silhouette of a cypress tree and houses.

The Hands Resist Him

The Hands Resist Him is a painting created in 1972 by artist Bill Stoneham.

This painting is said to be cursed. Most of the people online also said that it has an unsettling feeling. It is believed to be haunted.

He said that the painting was inspired by a photograph of himself at the age of five.

Within the span of six years – 1978 to 1984 – three of the owners died. The last owner Marley, 1984, actually sold the painting before he passed away. After this happened Bill Stoneham would hear about his painting once again after 26 years. The painting has been abandoned behind a California brewery turned art space.

In the year 2000, the painting was once again sold on eBay. The seller wrote a horror story for the product description.

“WHEN WE RECEIVED THIS PAINTING, WE THOUGHT IT WAS REALLY GOOD ART,”

“AT THE TIME WE WONDERED A LITTLE WHY A SEEMINGLY PERFECTLY FINE PAINTING WOULD BE DISCARDED LIKE THAT. ONE MORNING OUR 4 AND 1/2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER CLAIMED, THAT THE CHILDREN IN THE PICTURE WERE FIGHTING, AND COMING INTO THE ROOM DURING THE NIGHT.”

After being passed from owner to owner, it ended up in the hands of gallery owner Kim Smith. The painting was sold for $1,025.

Today the painting rests in Kim Smith’s gallery in Grand Rapids, Mich.
